Wax and haze when chilled
Hull wax carries into oil and crystallizes on refrigeration, clouding the bottle. Fix: Decorticate harder to cut hull carryover and winterize (de-wax) for a chill-clear salad oil.
Quality control
Most sunflower-oil complaints trace to feed stock, moisture, roast or cook, and filtration — not to pressing tonnage. Work the list below top to bottom before you change anything on the machine.
Common defects
Hull wax carries into oil and crystallizes on refrigeration, clouding the bottle. Fix: Decorticate harder to cut hull carryover and winterize (de-wax) for a chill-clear salad oil.
Hull pigments stain the oil when shell carryover is high. Fix: Improve kernel/hull separation before pressing; color is decided upstream of the press.
Over-roasting or early oxidation leaves a bitter note. Fix: Bound roast temperature and keep oil cool and dark; taste the roast rather than chasing color.
Cracked or damp seed raises free fatty acids before pressing. Fix: Press fresh, dry and cool the seed, and shorten the seed-to-press window.
Fix it in one scope
Before adjusting the press, confirm feed grade, moisture, the roast/cook window, and filtration depth for Sunflower oil. Those four cover most of this list; the press mostly reveals what came before it.

Sunflower Oil Problems and Fixes should not be quoted from an equipment name alone. Check feed lots, target oil, post-press handling, and packing rhythm in one scope before deciding which Sunflower Oil Press modules stay. Listed on the factory hot-press page — discuss 300/325 first.
When feed condition, moisture, impurities, batch weight, and product position are unclear, press tonnage and filter area become guesswork. Factory systems share 60 MPa and 2.2 kW motors; hot net pressing is 30–40 min/barrel and cold net pressing is ~2 h/barrel — cycle time matters more than brochure tonnage.
Factory model check
Pin models to published factory specs before tonnage talk.
Hot 300/325: 300–325 ton, 60 MPa system, standard barrel Ø390×800 mm / max 100 kg, net pressing 30–40 min/barrel, ~1.5 h for 2 barrels with loading, 2.2 kW motor. Cold 355/400/426/480/500: 370–630 ton, integrated frame, same 100 kg standard barrel, net pressing ~2 h/barrel, ~4.5 h for 2 barrels with loading; optional Ø300 high-pressure barrel max 60 kg. Residual oil target ~≤5% (peanut hot often 6–8% measured).
Equipment check
Once the route is clear, write the interfaces: how preparation feeds the press, how oil leaves the press, how filtration connects to tanks, and how packing receives finished oil.
Record feed form, daily volume, moisture, and sorting needs so pretreatment is not left to operators.
Retail sunflower oil needs winterization at 5–8°C × 24–48 h (wax 600–1200 ppm). Keep high-oleic and regular linoleic segregated.
Prepare space, power (often 380V/50Hz/3ph), labor, target package, local rules, and acceptance method before quotation.
Usually no. Most sunflower-oil defects start with feed stock, moisture, roast/cook, or filtration. The press controls pressure and cycle, not the chemistry already in the seed.
